品牌理念
半木;有一种偏执的温和气质。初见不觉,久看却让人动容。
这往往令我们自己都惊觉,仿佛它在这诞生的时间里,已经成长为一个独立的生命体,而不再仅是一个品牌,或一个简单的家具陈列厅。又或者说,半木;在与我们的日日相处中,已在我们与它之间构建起一个完整缜密的气场,它一面温和地馈赠我们充满线条之美的家具物事,另一面,却又犀利地表达着自己的美学态度,哪怕只是以沉默的方式。“取半舍满”,这是半木的哲学。“半”状态教会我们如何在进退各半的时维度里与自己对话。它是我们对木材质各种可能探索的媒介;也是我们表达东方式审美与自我设计语汇相融相合的方式。如同在最遥远的年代里,是“木匠”最初了解树干里年轮的秘密。我们以木为材料,伸展绳墨,用笔划线,拿刨子刨平,再用量具测量,最后制作成各种各样的家具。不敢深想,似乎在这过程里能触及生命的秘密,因为当下的我们,不过是尽量以质朴的方式做一些单纯的事。
它是现代的,也是传统的;是极简的,也是繁复的;是人文的,也是流行的;是可陈列的艺术品,亦毫无疑问是寻常日子使用的桌椅物事。半木;并不适合被归位于框架中,因为它依旧在生长。而我们在它的背后,只是将自己当作木匠在那些笔触线条,或刨花木屑中感受着如年轮般一圈一圈、渐渐清晰的物之美。它是一种通过眼耳鼻口心感知的时间的缘分;平衡、洁净、公平、不强求。这过程几乎如宗教,无法以言语表述,唯一可承诺的,不过是我们对于本心本性的虔诚,以及对于朴拙美好的始终信仰。

品牌历史
2001年4月,首个“香火”系列家居陈设产品面市,在上海新天地Q&W店销售
2003年11月,“香火”系列陈设作品 应邀参加上海 “国际设计师日”国际设计师联展
2004年8月,在上海浦东建立家具研发实验基地
2006年5月,设计师吕永中先生于上海创立半木品牌,以“取半舍满”为设计哲学,致力于当代中国家具及家居用品开发,思考当代家居生活方式、诠释中国式的生活哲学
2006年10月,首家品牌概念店“半木之家”在上海新天地马当路开幕
2006年11月,参加第四届上海国际时尚家居设计精品展
2007年2月,篆书椅应邀参加中国“三十把椅子”展
2007年4月,参加上海2007国际设计周
2007年8月,应邀参加深圳国际家具展 【创意中国】设计先锋展

PHILOSOPHY
BANMOO’s subtlety conveys persistence. The emotional reverberations of its designs are not immediately obvious, but slowly revealed through careful contemplation.
Two years after its inception, BANMOO has flourished into an independent, vibrant entity. BANMOO is not merely a brand name or a furniture series. The designers have woven a distinct aura of interconnection that joins the object with the viewer in the everyday contact between furniture and user. On the one hand, BANMOO’s furniture explicitly displays the beauty and aesthetic value of the functional object. On the other hand, the artwork silently hints at the beauty and aesthetic value already implicit within the object.
BANMOO’s design philosophy strives to derive the “halfness”—“ban” (半)—from the “fullness”—“man” (满). By carving out the innate essence from the ornate whole, BANMOO’s philosophy gives users the aesthetic freedom for spatial and temporal exploration. The designers use to carry out a discourse between Oriental aesthetic attitudes and individualistic creative approaches.
In ancient times, it was the woodworkers who first deciphered the secret of trees’ annual growth rings. Like these ancient artisans, BANMOO’s designers use wood as a medium for learning. The designers use ink markers, pencils, planes and measuring tools to transform wood into furniture that pulsates with vitality. The process of this transformation touches upon the deep mysteries of life; the end result is pure and elegant.

HISTORY
April 2001 The "Joss Stick" collections were first sold at Q&W Shop in Xintiandi, Shanghai.
November 2003 The "Joss Stick" collections were exhibited at "International Designers' Day" in Shanghai.
August 2004 An experimental studio for furniture design and manufacturing was set up in Pudong, Shanghai.
May 2006 The brand name "BANMOO" was initiated and registered as a trademark by Mr. Lv Yongzhong,the chief designer.
October 2006 The first BANMOO shop opened at Xintiandi of Madang Road, Shanghai.
November 2006 BANMOO's selected pieces were exhibited at "the 4th International Home Fashion & Design,Shanghai".
February 2007 The "Calligraphy Chair" was invited to exhibit at "The Best Thirty Chairs of China" exhibition.
April 2007 BANMOO's selected pieces were exhibited at "the International Design Week, 2007, Shanghai"
August 2007 BANMOO's selected pieces were exhibited at the "Creative China Zone" of "Shenzhen International Furniture Exhibition".
